INTRODUCTION
Metro FM (94.5) has been broadcasting to the city of Lusaka and surrounding areas since April of 2013. The stations aim is to positively inform, entertain, inspire and enrich its audience by broadcasting a relevant mix of youth and adult contemporary programmes and music.
The station eventually plans to achieve a 70% talk to 30% music ratio in its programming.
The stations music selection is anchored on a balanced mix of Zambian (contemporary and some Kalindula), pop rock, some rock, soul, rhythm and blues, as well as new world music. We aim to make our listeners feel infused with creative energy and special concerns of the community through a mix of news, Zambian culture and social responsibility.
Metro FM has assembled a fresh crop of presenters who have not been exposed anywhere else in the quest to create a distinctive Metro sound. The audience should be in no doubt when they tune in as to which station they are listening to. The distinctively Metro sound is an expression of the unique quality which we have brought to radio broadcasting in Zambia.
Our mix of innovative programmes touches the lives of the most significant age groups which is:

COVERAGE
The stations coverage reaches an estimated potential audience of over two million listeners daily in Lusaka, Chisamba, Mumbwa, Chongwe, Chibombo and some parts of central province.

Our programmes will tackle matters affecting the livelihoods of the people we serve. We are offering an interactive means of communication with our audience.
NEWS
Metro FM Main News bulletins are to be aired between 07:00 hrs Mornings, 12:00 hrs Afternoons and 18:00 hrs Evenings. The three main news bulletins focus firstly on locally relevant topical issues in, Politics, business and finance, health, agriculture, current affairs in society, secondly on current international news and lastly on sports.

Business News broadcast within the breakfast show at 08:25 hrs. Further business and economic news will be broadcast in a yet to be launched stand-alone programme called Business Link.
Music Policy
The station broadcasts a varied blend of local and international tunes. Friday and Saturday are reserved for local contemporary music broadcast between 06:00 hrs and 18:00 hrs
The mid morning shakedown airs R and B music from the 90s and 2000s.
The lunch break show has a request segment that allows listeners to ask for any song of their choice.
The drive time show carters for lovers of naija music, Zambian modern music, and South African music and world hits. The drive time show has a top ten segment that covers music from the three countries as well as the billboard hot 100.
The station also plays some rock, pop rock and kalindula music.
PROGRAMMING
The programming day starts with the lively Metro Breakfast Show followed by the Elevation 945 which spills into lunch and provides an opportunity to slow things down before speeding up again with the drive time show Speed Dial 945. The day closes with the Evening and Late Night Shows with a mix of music selections from 90s and R&B to pop rock and even hard rock.
Metro Breakfast Show 06:00 hrs 09:00 hrs
The main items on the menu during the Metro Breakfast are local news, international news, business news, sports news, community messages, traffic and weather guides, food and health tips, shopping guide, public mood phone-ins on current issues, quizzes and competitions and as well as tit-bits on Zambian history. A varied music mix is played to carter to our varied listeners.
Elevation 945 The mid-morning show that spills into lunch 09:00 hrs 13:00 hrs – Weekdays except Wednesdays
This show focuses on local events, tips about relationships and entertainment, society and health. The show is mainly focused on young adult content. The music selection is R&B, slows, mid tempo tracks from the 90s.
WhatsApp Audio Request Show 13:00 hrs 14:00 hrs – Weekdays except Wednesdays
Listeners are requested to send in their requests for music for the hour long playlist using social media app WhatsApp. The audio messages are played before the song requested. There are no restrictions as to the type/genre of music to be requested. The music is uninterrupted with no presenter.
Speed Dial 945 is the drive time show 14:00 hrs 18:00 hrs Weekdays except Wednesdays
Starting with modern rhythm and blues tracks both Zambian and international the show builds up tempo to a fast paced presentation of current affairs, sports, celebrity gossip, useful tit-bits on the stock exchange, currency exchange rates.
Early Evening Show 18:00hrs 21:00 hrs
The night time sound of Metro come after the main news bulletin at 18:00 hrs. Monday through Thursday the listeners will be treated to 90s, 2000s tracks and a bit of the 80s.
On Wednesday a day the station has dedicated to women Soul to Soul will present a selection of soul Music from the women as well as information that is most relevant to the women of this country.
ON Tuesdays its Love 9.0 with smooth R and B from the period
On Fridays Metro Fms main branded music show Mix Show (MIX 945) features international dance music charts and fast paced mix of a variety of dance music genres.
Late Night Metro 21:00 hrs 24:00 hrs
Dubbed the Pop Rock Avenue the show is dominated by pop rock tracks encompassing alternative rock, hard rock, metal, indie, classic rock, pop country and some smooth pop rock tracks. The show is presented on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The hard rock version is aired Tuesdays.
METRO WEEKEND (SATURDAY AND SUNDAY)
The weekend shows provide light programming with a shift from the weekday programming. The daily news format is maintained.
Saturday morning starts with the breakfast show which includes a recap of the weeks main local and international news items shopping guides, sports and entertainment news, followed by health and lifestyle.
The afternoon features Flight Zed a show for Zambian music building up to Metros own branded Sports Interactive and Late Night Metro.
Sundays start with an inspirational programme, reflections and news. The main morning feature is a gospel themed Breakfast Show. The early afternoon features contemporary and classic rock and soul music and ends with a contemporary country music selection
OTHER SHOWS
Sports Interactive
Sports musical show airs 15 18 hours every Saturday afternoon. Its three hours of sports information and occasional cross overs to some local stadiums for live updates.
The show is spiced with Zambian music.
Metro News 60
This is a one hour news magazine show presented by the Metro FM News Crew.
Listeners are taken back to look at the headlines of the previous week.
An expert guest is sometimes invited to give perspective and analysis of the news from the week.
Three local stories, two international stories and a sports story are chosen and discussed and analysed over the course of one hour.
Metro FM and Women24
Metro Fm and Women24 which is a Non-Governmental Organisation registered with the Ministry of Community Development have entered into an Memorandum of Understanding MOU whereby broadcast airtime is provided at concessionary terms for a period of 24 hours.
Women24 has taken responsibility for producing all the programming every Wednesdays from 06:00 hours in the morning to 06:00 hours on Thursday mourning.
The 24 hour special programming includes interviews with leading women personalities, health related shows, evening talk shows dealing with love and relationships, and women inspired music through out the day.
